Please find below our Curriculum Newsletters which explain what the children will be learning each term:
Physical Education
Our P.E. kit is a plain navy St Edward’s top, black/navy shorts or trousers, black/navy jumper and black trainers. Often, our P.E. lessons will take place outside so make sure you bring appropriate clothing! Our P.E. days are Wednesday and Friday so please come into school wearing your P.E. kit on these days.
Homework
Homework is sent out each Friday and is to be returned on the following Thursday. There will be both Maths and English homework.
Year 5 children are also expected to read every night. Please make sure that you have your Reading Record signed each day and bring it back to school.
Curriculum
At St Edward’s we are linking subjects together – a cross curricular approach.
To further our learning experiences, we will be working with external professionals both in and out of the classroom to enhance our learning.

In English, we will be reading the following texts:
Shackleton’s Journey, Secrets of a Sun King, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I am not a Label, The Boy in the Tower, The Explorer, Welcome to Nowhere, The Secret Garden and Malamanda.

- report writing
- use their inference and deduction skills to write about characters’ reactions regarding certain events in the book.
- create non-fiction texts
- write narratives
- use persuasive writing skills
- create a set of instructions
- read, write and perform poetry
- create play scripts
We will continue to develop our grammar, punctuation and spelling knowledge.
